This Chemical Peel is a Must-Try For Rosacea-Prone Skin

Hear the words ‘chemical peel’ and you won’t be alone in fearing raw skin that, well… peels off your face. This often-misunderstood treatment has a scary-sounding name, yet delivers some of the most transformative results for your skin. So what if we told you there’s a peel so gentle it can actually calm redness in rosacea-prone complexions? If your sensitive skin has made you wary of chemical peels, now is the time to get familiar with their true benefits…

First, what is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a high-powered treatment that sees a potent solution (often made up of skin-kind acids) applied to your face, and left on for a period of time. This solution helps to dissolve or ‘peel’ away dead skin cells, while stimulating the growth of new, healthy cells. The result: clearer, more even-toned, radiant skin.

But this dissolving action doesn’t have to be harsh. While there are stronger peels available, you can also opt for a gentler treatment that still delivers fast, noticeable results. At Mallucci, we believe there’s a chemical peel to suit every skin type and concern. And once you find one that works for you, you’ll enjoy luminosity like never before.

What are the benefits of skin peels?

One of the biggest benefits of chemical peels is smooth, clear, bright and even-toned skin. By dissolving dead skin cells, your peel can help to fade hyperpigmentation in the form of sunspots, melasma and post-acne marks. This doesn’t just leave skin beautifully smooth, but it also guarantees radiance. Dull dead skin cells are sloughed away to reveal new, healthy cells that make your complexion glow.

A peel can also tackle an active breakout by unsticking ‘glued-together’ pores that are stubbornly clogged. It dissolves the cells that block your pores, helping to minimise blemishes and calm breakouts. What’s more, a peel can work to soften the appearance of fine lines which, combined with your new megawatt glow, gives your skin a more youthful look.

But perhaps the most surprising benefit of skin peels is their effect on rosacea-prone skin. This isn’t the case for all peels, but the iS Clinical Prodigy Peel is specially formulated to temper redness. Its effective acid blend also targets acne, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and skin laxity, making it the perfect treatment for treating a range of skin concerns in one.

How does the iS Clinical Prodigy Peel work?

This coveted chemical peel combines the exfoliating power of four targeted ingredients: lactic acid, salicylic acid, citric acid and resorcinol. Its potent blend removes dead skin cells without putting your skin at risk of damage, so you can safely resurface a dull complexion to reveal even-toned radiance.

There are two iS Clinical Prodigy Peels available at Mallucci: P2 for a superficial (meaning surface level) peel, and P3 for an enhanced superficial to medium depth peel. Our practitioners will work with you to identify the perfect peel for your skin goals, ensuring your treatment is concentrated enough to deliver results, yet gentle enough to keep long-term redness under control.

What can I expect during treatment?

After an initial consultation, where we determine your ideal treatment, your Mallucci practitioner will begin the chemical peel process. First, your skin will be gently cleansed, petroleum jelly will be applied to protect eyes, eyebrows, lips and nostrils, and you’ll be asking to wear eye goggles.

Next, the Prodigy Prep toner will be swept over the skin, followed by the Prodigy Peel and Prodigy Boost solutions. When the peel itself is smoothed over skin, expect to feel some heat and tingling. It’s not painful, and most patients find it very tolerable.

Once the peel has been removed, we’ll then apply iS Clinical Extreme Protect, so skin is shielded from the sun when you leave the clinic. In total, your iS Clinical Prodigy Peel will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.

What can I expect after treatment?

Most patients will experience downtime after a chemical peel, but how visible it is and how long it lasts depends on the individual. As a general rule, you can expect to see redness appear immediately after treatment, and there may be some peeling and flaking for up to 10 days. This usually begins on day two and increases until around day six. But, as the redness subsides, your calmer, clearer, more even-toned complexion will be revealed.

How many chemical peels will I need?

We recommend a course of three chemical peels for optimal results. For the P2 peel, these should be four to six weeks apart, and for the P3 peel we advise having treatments six to eight weeks apart.

How should I care for my skin after the treatment?

The golden rule of post-peel care is to avoid direct sun exposure for at least four weeks. As shiny, new cells reach the surface, your skin is vulnerable to hyperpigmentation. This also means an SPF of 30 (at least) is essential to keep pores protected. Apply it every morning and reapply throughout the day for reliable shielding.

As for your skincare routine, we suggest that on the day of your treatment, you avoid using any products on your face until the evening. When you do follow your regimen, swap actives for a gentle cream cleanser and iS Clinical Sheald Recovery Balm to moisturise. The wound-healing powerhouse reduces inflammation, limits scarring, and is also suitable for soothing skin prone to rosacea, acne and psoriasis.
