Imagine a life with silky smooth and stubble free skin? Most of us live with unwanted hair of some description, and no matter how much attention we give it – either with a razor or wax strips, it just keeps making a comeback. The struggle is real, but the stubble struggle has a solution!
As we head into winter and our summer tans are nothing but a faded memory, now is the perfect time to banish your unwanted body and facial hairs. Start preparing for Spring/Summer 2019 by taking hair removal out of your weekly (or in some cases daily) routine for good and making it a thing of the past.
Mallucci London offers genuine laser hair removal that actually works – tackling everything from ingrown and unwanted hair, to irritated skin after shaving or waxing. Our Cynosure Elite system enables us to target even fine brown hairs that other lasers simply cannot do as effectively.
We sat down with our Nurse Practitioner at Mallucci London who specialises in laser hair removal for a quick Q&A;
How does laser hair removal work? Laser hair removal works by converting laser energy into heat, when this reaches the hair follicles the heat is strong enough to weaken the follicle, preventing it from growing back.
Tanning and laser hair removal, what’s the story? Laser light is attracted to the brown pigment in hairs called melanin. This also means that laser hair removal cannot be performed on tanned skin as the laser won’t be able to tell the difference between the melanin in the hair follicles or the raised melanin content in the skin caused by a tan – real or fake.
Do I need a patch test? You will always have a full consultation and a patch test before your treatment begins, this ensures our expert practitioners can determine the most effective settings which are bespoke to you. 24 hours after your patch test, you can begin your treatment journey, most sessions can be completed in as little as 15 minutes and we can treat everywhere from the upper lip or neck to the legs, toes, underarms and bikini.
What is the treatment like? During the treatment a cold jet of air is blown onto the skin, a mild heat sensation is felt but this quickly disappears. Your next treatment will be scheduled 6 weeks later – as this is when the hair will start to grow back. Most of our patients require a course of 6 – 8 treatments and for optimal results, you should not leave it longer than 8 – 9 weeks between sessions.
Top tips!
We always recommend avoiding any excess heat for at least 24 hours after the treatment – so no exercise, hot baths or saunas as this can trap heat and bacteria in the hair follicles and could lead to irritation.
We always recommend you wear a broad-spectrum sun protection such as SkinCeuticals Sheer Mineral UV defence in SPF 50, to protect your skin from UV damage and sun exposure in-between your treatments.
