A certain Mallucci treatment has been gaining popularity in recent months. You might not hear many talk about it, but the bookings and repeat appointments speak for themselves. The procedure in question? Votiva; an in-house vaginal rejuvenation treatment, which harnesses radiofrequency to address everything from skin laxity, to vaginal dryness, to bladder weakness.
When you think about it, it’s no surprise that intimate care is getting more attention than ever before. Thanks in part to the body positivity movement, many are being more open and honest about their concerns ‘down there’ – and at every age. It’s widely known that stress incontinence and reduced lubrication can occur after childbirth or menopause, but a study by Always Discreet also found that 64% of 18-24-year-olds experience some form of bladder weakness due to intensive exercise regimens or restrictive diets.
So, when we say you’re not alone, we really do mean you’re not alone. Stress incontinence, laxity and dryness are more common than you think, and there’s no wrong or right way to approach them. The good news is, if you do choose to address your concerns, there are options available to you. Booking a vaginal rejuvenation treatment is a personal choice, but one that does come with a number of benefits.
To help you decide, we’ve asked our very own Dr Jana Vogt to tell us all about Votiva, so you know exactly what to expect before you make a booking…
What happens during a Votiva consultation?
“For your first consultation, we always allocate enough time to go through everything in depth before we start the treatment, so expect your initial appointment to be a little longer. Usually I ask patients what their concerns are and why they have come in for the treatment. I then explain how Votiva helps with vaginal dryness, stress incontinence and also with laxity. These issues can be addressed with the internal radiofrequency, while the external radiofrequency can improve the texture and tone of the labia tissue.
How does the vaginal rejuvenation treatment work?
If you are a suitable candidate and are happy to proceed with the treatment, I can do this on the same day as your consultation. We treat for 20 minutes internally, and 10 minutes on the external area. The treatment is very comfortable, so there is no need for any numbing; it just feels warm.
“The way Votiva works is that the probe, which is about the same size as a vaginal ultrasound probe, emits radiofrequency waves to heat up the tissue. This leads to a contraction of the fibres – as in collagen and elastin fibres – which results in a tightening of the tissue.
“The radiofrequency energy also stimulates collagen and elastin production, therefore it can help with laxity and laxity-induced stress incontinence. Additionally, this improves the tissue quality and the profusion, and that can help with vaginal dryness.”
How do I know if it’s right for me?
“It all depends on what you want to achieve from the treatment. While Votiva can tighten external tissue, the benefits are more focused on the internal indication. External treatment of the labia can help with the texture and tone of the tissue, but if you want to target excess skin or asymmetry, that would usually be addressed surgically with a labiaplasty. However, if it’s stress incontinence, vaginal dryness or laxity you’re hoping to focus on, a Votiva vaginal rejuvenation treatment is right for you. It can help during menopause, after childbirth or as needed throughout life.”
How many courses of treatment will I need?
Initially, we recommend a course of three treatments that are each one month apart. After that, you can opt to come in for ‘maintenance’ once or twice a year, or as needed.”
Is there any downtime involved?
“No, there is no downtime. After treatment, you can exercise, you can have intimate relations… There might be a little bit of swelling but other than that there’s no downtime.”
